Het Arresthuis: A Historic Dutch Prison Turned into a Luxurious Modern Hotel in the Netherlands

Het Arresthuis in the Netherland is a newly opened luxury hotel, that served as a jail between 1863 to 2007. The penitentiary has 150 holding cells which have been transformed into 36 luxurious rooms and 7 suites, including four special suites known as The Director, The Jailer, The Lawyer, and The Judge, all of which feature modern furnishings and neat details like exposed brick and barred windows. Also on the grounds are a fully-stocked bar, Restaurant Damianz, a sauna, a gym, and a central patio with olive trees, and an organic herb garden.

Prison hotels aren’t a new concept. There is one in Germany called the Alcatraz Hotel, and dozens others that Telegraph has rounded up in an article.
